Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about visual color calibration and hardware compatibility.

Q: Can DisplayMatch make my external monitor color 100% identical to my MacBook screen?

No. Different displays use fundamentally different physical hardware—including panel types (IPS, OLED, Mini-LED), backlights, native color gamuts, and anti-glare coatings. Because of these physical realities, 100% identical color reproduction is not possible.

DisplayMatch is built to help you get as visually close as possible, bringing your subjective visual experience into comfortable alignment so moving windows across displays feels natural.

Q: What do I need to do to calibrate my display?

All you need to do is open the app and compare the reference visual patterns shown on both screens. DisplayMatch places identical patterns across your external monitor and built-in Mac display simultaneously. By looking at them side by side, you simply fine-tune the controls and choose the matching profile that looks most coherent and natural to your eyes.

Q: Do I need any special hardware device?

No hardware device or colorimeter is required. The software focuses on subjective human perception rather than theoretical lab measurements, making dual displays visually comfortable for daily workflows.

Q: What are the system and display requirements?

DisplayMatch requires macOS 14.6 or later. Because external monitors differ greatly in compatibility and controls, we offer a free trial in the app so you can verify how it performs on your setup.

Q: Does it support AirPlay or iPad Sidecar?

Currently, AirPlay wireless displays and iPad Sidecar are not supported for calibration due to macOS system display pipeline constraints.
